The perfect cross training activity for active men, yoga improves golf games, running performance and core strength to help prevent injuries
Let’s face it; we’ve all heard the news – yoga is good for you and yoga will help you. So why do so many men still resist it? Do they think it’s too wimpy or they’re not flexible enough? Listen here, guys! Chagrin Yoga instructors Melissa Nicolo and Melanie Tessmer think it’s time to set the record straight when it comes to the benefits of yoga for men. These two seasoned instructors have noticed that once men try yoga, they become hooked. So, in an effort to get more men practicing yoga, they decided to team up and offer a “Men Only Workshop” on Saturday March 10 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Chagrin Yoga, located at 524 E. Washington Street in Chagrin Falls.
“Once men walk in that door and experience a power yoga class that is more athletic and sweaty than it is slow and stretchy, they finally get it and yoga becomes an integral component of their fitness routine” said Melissa Nicolo.
Because yoga combines strength, flexibility, balance, focus and coordination, it’s the perfect cross training activity a guy can do to enhance performance in his main sport whether it’s cycling, running, golf, triathlons, rugby or lacrosse. Golfers find yoga helps them hit longer drives and stay focused on the course. Runners swear it reduces soreness and boosts energy. Weekend warrior athletes use yoga to maintain peak condition and avoid injuries. According to a recent article on foxnews.com, even the New York Giants used it to help them win the Superbowl.
For men who are just starting out, this workshop will introduce the basic foundational postures of yoga and give men an idea what to expect from classes going forward. For men already practicing, it will be a great opportunity to focus on the areas of yoga that commonly have the most benefit for men, such as tight shoulders and hips. Either way, it’s a great opportunity for men at all levels to discover the stress-reducing, life-enhancing benefits of this ancient and proven practice.
In addition to the two hour workshop, which will blend workshop-style instruction with a one-hour power Vinyasa flow, Chagrin Yoga will host an informal “Men’s Power Reception” after the class for students to ask questions and sample healthy, nutritious drinks and snacks such as wholesome Good Greens Bars made by local company and event sponsor, Good Greenstm.
